Lower cost of production
The use of oxygen can deliver improved productivity in many areas of iron and steelmaking. We are expert in the use of oxygen enrichment to improve productivity in processes. Best operating practices in EAFs (electric arc furnaces) has changed dramatically in recent years. MOX has a wide range of effective, flexible and reliable oxy-fuel burner systems and precision flow control panels suitable for a variety of applications including oxy-fuel assisted melting, scrap preheating and post combustion.
Improved quality
MOX-LINDE also has experience in gas supplied to bath agitation in the EAF and secondary steelmaking ladle. Nitrogen or argon bubbled through molten metal improves the homogeneity of temperature and composition, allowing rigorous quality specifications to be met consistently. Our experience extends to downstream processing. Nitrogen and hydrogen mixtures provide a protective atmosphere during annealing, galvanizing, hardening, tempering and austempering in order to achieve high surface quality. In addition, nitrogen can provide a convenient and controllable medium for the transfer of reactive elements in nitrocarburisng, carbonitriding, carburising and nitriding.
Energy optimization

Enhanced operations
Environment, health and safety are of increasing importance to steelmakers all over the world. Nitrogen is used for the fume suppression on molten metal streams and, by reducing the load on fume extraction systems, significant capital and power savings can be achieved. Oxygen post combustion in an EAF reduces carbon monoxide in the furnace emissions, and the use of oxygen instead of air on re-heat furnaces reduces the flue gas volume.
